A High Mountain, An Emotional Low

We experienced many highs and lows on our vacation, with perhaps our lowest low coming at a high point, at least in terms of elevation.

This week’s Patch column looks at our experience hiking the trail to the top of Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Click here to read all about it.

  1. I feel for your frustrations...but I do know that Alex...while he tolerates a day or two from home...and his schedule...he gets cranky easily if it goes much beyond. We had spent 3 days at Disneyland a few years ago. After the 2nd day...he said he wanted to go home. We stayed...and he handled it well...but he just loves his established routine at home. I rather enjoy being at home after being gone for few days gone also.

Actually...that just says that you are doing things so right at home that he loves it there. It is his refuge and place of great comfort.

  2. Thanks. We are glad that Kai is so comfortable at home, but I do want him to be able to be comfortable elsewhere as well. I can see that it will take time for him to develop that ability, and we will have to think carefully how to plan any future trips.
