Rough Day

My son came home from school today in a bad mood. It was readily apparent that he had had a bad day. His Point Sheet from school verified it.

Then, we opened up his backpack and found the shirt he had worn to school. Kai had chewed off the end of both sleeves.

It wasn’t the first time he had destroyed his shirt. The last time it happened was just before the break, at the holiday concert at school.

Now we are awaiting the email from his teacher to find out what happened.

In the meantime, anyone know where we can get chew-proof clothing?

  2. Oh...poor thing. That is the worst thing, knowing your child had a rough day and not knowing why. Hope it's just the transition back to school and that it gets better.

  3. My son also went through a chewing phase starting at about 5 or 6 yrs. old and went until he was about 8 or 9 yrs. old. He doesn't chew any more. Perhaps it is a few year phase. We had just gotten him a chewer and let him chew sugarless chewing gum. He no longer has the urge. I hope the same will happen for Kai in a couple of years.

  4. Thanks, Lisa. The transition back to school could be adding to the problems, though he's been having issues like this for months now.

  5. Shiroi, we have a chewer and plenty of gum available for Kai, as does the school, but when he gets angry, those things don't help. So, the chewing itself is less the issue, and trying to control his anger is our biggest challenge.
